Can my child have both a 504 plan and an IEP?
In most cases, no—a child has one governing plan, not two. If your child qualifies for an IEP, the accommodations a 504 plan would otherwise provide are typically written directly into the IEP, since an IEP already satisfies a school's Section 504 obligations. True dual-plan situations exist but are uncommon, usually involving a distinct, temporary, or medical need unrelated to the disability the IEP already addresses.
